About The Artist

Drawn to Painting

Jeremy Bryans has throughout his life been an enthusiastic sketcher, using cartridge paper and the full range of pencils which have accompanied him on his travels. It is only in his retirement that he has embraced the more challenging medium of watercolour. The paintings are nevertheless, in many instances, based on his initial sketches. He also makes his own mountings, wash-lining and frames which he maintains form an integral part of the finished picture.

Much of his working life was spent in India and the Far East, but he has always retained an enduring love of this country, particularly the rivers and estuaries, the seasonal variations and the ever-changing light, all of which he feels are elements well suited to watercolour.

Both he and his wife, Rachel, are fond of cycling and this enables them to continue to discover a wealth of subject matter both in this country and on the Continent, often in places which are off the beaten track. However, places such as Venice draw them back like a magnet to the well trodden ways!

Exhibitions

He has held four very successful exhibitions at The Gallery, 4 Chester Road, Northwood, Middlesex HA6 1BQ.
